Balmoral Castle was build in the 15 century and is located on the Balmoral Estate in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and is the private residence of The Queen. For years the Royal Family has used Balmoral as a summer getaway which was also loved by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert who purchased the house in 1852. After purchasing the estate the couple a new castle was built around 90 meers (100 yards) from the original building and was completed in 1856.
Balmoral Castle is a working estate which works alongside the community to promote environmental sustainability and is funded personally by The QUeen herself. The castle is estimated to employ around 50 full time and 50-100 part time staff.
Balmoral Estate is home to a range of animals including deer, cows and salmon. Each year around 85,000 people visit the estate’s gardens.
Today the castle is open to visitors and information can be found on the website.
