Created in 1770 and likely acquired by King George III for Queen Charlotte around this time, the technology used within this watch has been said to be one of the greatest improvements in design there ever was.
It is not clear when the plinth was created, it could have been at the same time as the watch itself, but it could also have been at a later date.
The watch boasts a gold case with an enamel dial encased in a tortoiseshell and gilt bronze plinth.
